19th of June
There is also important to celebrate 19th of June. Two days after the establishment of the Republic of Iceland on 17th of June 1944, the sixth national meeting of the Icelandic Women’s Rights Association was held in Reykjavík and Þingvellir.
In the national park, about 50 attendees, spent three days discussing the organization of the association and it´s stand towards the new constitution.
The main resolutons towards the new constitution were:
- That women should be guaranteed equal rights with men
- That women should have equal access to all trades like men
- That women should receive the same salary for the same work as men and equal opportunities for promotion.
- Maternity leave and payment during that leave would be put in motion
